Cubs conclude 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Baseball Draft

CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs today completed the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The club made 40 selections during the three-day event.

In today's 14th and 15th rounds, the Cubs selected Indiana University right-handed pitchers, picking six-foot, eight-inch, 230-pound Jake Kelzer and six-foot, one-inch, 195-pound Scott Effross, respectively. Both were teammates with Chicago's 2014 first-round selection (fourth overall) catcher Kyle Schwarber. 

Kelzer, 21, completed his redshirt sophomore season in 2015 and was 4-5 with a 3.95 ERA (32 ER/73.0 IP) in 17 games (11 starts) while holding opponents to a .237 average. Effross, 21, went 4-4 with a 2.35 ERA (16 ER/61.1 IP) in 21 games (seven starts) in his junior campaign this season. He walked just nine, struck out 51 and held the opposition to a .217 average.

The Cubs in the 32nd round selected right-handed pitcher Fitz Stadler from Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Ill., a suburb of Chicago. The six-foot, seven-inch, 215-pound Stadler went 8-0 with a 0.81 ERA in 2014, and has committed to Arizona State University.

Overall, the Cubs selected 18 pitchers (11 right-handed and seven left-handed), four catchers, eight outfielders and 10 infielders. Additionally, the Cubs selected 29 college players and 10 high school players.
