A's Claim OF Jake Smolinski off Waivers from Texas and Option him to Nashville

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's claimed outfielder Jake Smolinski off waivers from the Texas Rangers and optioned him to Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today.

Smolinski was batting .133 with a home run and six RBI in 35 games over three stints with Texas when he was designated for assignment on Friday. He was recalled most recently June 2 and went 0-for-7 with six strikeouts in seven games during his third stint. The 26-year-old right-handed hitter also batted .422 with five doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI in 12 games with Triple-A Round Rock. Smolinski hit .349 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 24 games in his Major League debut with the Rangers last year and is a .260 career hitter with four home runs and 18 RBI in 59 games.
