31st Annual Lady Jays Food Drive
June 26-28 at Rogers Centre
The Lady Jays will be hosting the 31st Annual Lady Jays Food Drive in support of Food Banks Canada starting tomorrow. Fans coming to Rogers Centre throughout the weekend to see the Blue Jays take on the Texas Rangers are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, provide monetary donations, or purchase grab bags which contain an autographed baseball cap and other various Blue Jays items.
Food collected throughout the weekend will go to support a local affiliate food bank in Toronto, while cash donations will be directed to Food Banks Canada to support national programs.
"We are very fortunate to host an event which gives back not only to the community of Toronto, but across the entire Country" says Amanda Pillar, wife of Blue Jays Outfielder Kevin Pillar. "The Food Drive is the Blue Jays' longest standing community initiative, and we are honoured to once again be assisting Food Banks Canada in raising awareness about hunger and food bank use in Canada."
Food Banks Canada supports a unique network of over 4,000 food-related organizations in every province and territory that assists close to 850,000 Canadians each month. Together their network shares over 200 million pounds of essential safe quality food annually, provides social programs that help to foster self-sufficiency, and advocates for policy change that will help create a Canada where no one goes hungry.
The Lady Jays and Food Banks Canada are asking all Canadian baseball fans listening or watching the game at home and who wish to assist Canadians in need, to do so in the following ways:
- visiting www.foodbankscanada.ca and donating online
- texting HUNGER to 30333 for a $5 donation to be added to their next mobile phone bill
- visit their local food bank and donate food, funds or volunteer their time
The Lady Jays represent the wives, girlfriends, and family members of the Toronto Blue Jays players and coaches.
