Red Sox recall right-handed pitcher Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket

Option right-handed pitcher Noe Ramirez to Pawtucket

The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Noe Ramirez was optioned to Pawtucket. Wright will be active for today's game against the Houston Astros at Fenway Park beginning at 1:35 p.m.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Wright, 30, returns for his fourth stint of the season with Boston. In 11 appearances with the Red Sox in 2015, he is 3-2 with a 4.15 ERA (20 ER/43.1 IP), 24 strikeouts, and a .246 opponent average, including a 3.91 ERA (10 ER/23.0 IP) in four starts. The right-handed knuckleballer has worked exclusively as a starter with the PawSox this season, posting a 2-3 record, 3.00 ERA (13 ER/39.0 IP), and 34 strikeouts in six outings. The California native last pitched on Wednesday, allowing six runs (3 ER) over 5.0 innings in a loss at Minnesota's Rochester affiliate. In his previous outing, he held the Gwinnett Braves to one run in a complete game 9.0-inning effort. Over his major league career, all with the Red Sox from 2013-15, Wright has gone 5-3 with a 3.94 ERA (34 ER/77.2 IP) in 21 games (six starts).

Ramirez, 25, was selected to Boston's active major league roster prior to yesterday's game for his first career major league stint and made his big league debut in last night's 12-8 extra-innings loss to the Astros. The right-hander, who allowed four runs on three hits and two walks in the 10th inning and took the loss, returns to Pawtucket, where he is 4-0 with a 2.42 ERA (7 ER/26.0 IP) in 16 games (one start), including a 1.57 ERA (4 ER/23.0 IP) in 15 relief appearances. Signed by the Red Sox as a fourth-round selection in the 2011 June Draft, Ramirez is 11-10 with a 2.91 ERA (82 ER/253.1 IP) and 236 strikeouts in 110 career minor league outings (17 starts), posting a 2.29 ERA (43 ER/168.2 IP) since the start of 2013.
