Nationals recall RHP Taylor Jordan, place RHP Stephen Strasburg on 15-day D.L.

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Taylor Jordan from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday and placed right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain. President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Jordan, 26, joins the Nationals for his third Major League assignment of the season. The right-hander was last recalled from Triple-A on May 24 and appeared in two games (one start) before returning to Syracuse on June 4.

In 16 Major League games, over the course of two-plus seasons, Jordan is a career 1-8 with a 4.81 ERA (15 games started).

This season with Syracuse, Jordan is 2-4 with a 2.97 ERA in 11 starts. The sinkerballer has averaged 6.2 IP in his previous three outings and worked to a 1.35 ERA in that span, which included starts vs. Toledo, Buffalo and Louisville.

Strasburg, 26, returns to the disabled list for the second time this season after overcoming a bout with neck tightness earlier this year. In his three starts since he'd returned from the DL, Strasburg was 2-0 with a 1.15 ERA and had held opposing batters to a .161 average. Strasburg is 5-5 with a 5.16 ERA this season.
