Pirates claim Travis Ishikawa off waivers from San Francisco

The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed first baseman Travis Ishikawa off waivers from the San Francisco Giants. The Pirates will make a corresponding move on the 25-man roster upon Ishikawa's arrival in Pittsburgh. The announcement was made by Pirates Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The 31-year-old Ishikawa went 0-for-5 in six games this year with the Giants after beginning the year on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain. He also hit a combined .266 (38-for-143) with nine doubles, four home runs and 20 RBI in 37 games between Single-A San Jose and Triple-A Sacramento in 2015.

This will be Ishikawa's second stint with the Pirates after making the team last season out of spring training as a non-roster invitee. He was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on April 19, 2014, before signing a minor league contract with San Francisco on April 25.
