Clayton Kershaw Added to NL All-Star Team

LOS ANGELES - National League All-Star manager Bruce Bochy of the San Francisco Giants announced today, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, that left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been added to the NL's active roster for the Midsummer Classic. Kershaw replaces Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer, who started on Sunday afternoon and has elected not to be active during the All-Star Game.

Scherzer, who had been elected via the Player Ballot, was an All-Star for the third time and the first in the NL. Entering his start today, Scherzer was 9-7 with a 2.12 ERA over 17 starts. In 123.1 innings pitched, he has allowed 32 runs (29 earned) on 85 hits with 14 walks and 143 strikeouts. Scherzer will be inactive during the All-Star Game, but is invited to Cincinnati with full All-Star honors. Kershaw, who is 6-6 with a 2.85 ERA, is an All-Star for the fifth consecutive season. In 123.0 innings pitched over 18 starts, he has surrendered 45 runs (39 earned) on 99 hits with 27 walks and 160 strikeouts. He joins his Dodgers teammates Adrian Gonzalez, Yasmani Grandal, Zack Greinke and Joc Pederson on the NL roster.

The 2015 All-Star Game will be played at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday, July 14th. The 86th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 160 countries. ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game. MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Week coverage.
