White Sox place Emilio Bonifacio on the Bereavement List; Recall Leury Garcia from Class AAA Charlotte

CLEVELAND - Prior to tonight's game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox placed infielder Emilio Bonifacio on the Bereavement List and recalled infielder Leury Garcia from Class AAA Charlotte. Under Major League Baseball rules, Bonifacio must remain on the list for a minimum of three games and not more than seven.

Garcia, 24, is hitting .301 (85-282) with 15 doubles, one triple, one home run, 23 RBI, 39 runs scored and 27 stolen bases over 73 games with Charlotte this season. He ranks among the International League leaders in stolen bases (3rd) and average (11th). Garcia has played second base, third base, shortstop, left field, center field and right field for the Knights this season.

Garcia spent his first full season in the major leagues with the White Sox in 2014, hitting .166 (24-145) with three doubles, one homer, six RBI and 11 stolen bases over 74 games. He will wear uniform No. 27.

Bonifacio, 30, is hitting .160 (12-75) with one double and three RBI in 44 games this season after signing as a free agent on January 8.
