Rougned Odor of the Texas Rangers named American League Player of the Week

Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending July 26th. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

Odor batted .385 (10-for-26) with nine runs scored, three home runs, three doubles, a triple and eight RBI over six games to claim his first career AL weekly honor. Among his AL counterparts, Rougned finished the period first in runs scored, tied for first in extra-base hits (7), second in slugging percentage (.923), tied for third in total bases (24), tied for fourth in RBI and tied for sixth in home runs.

On Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, the left-handed-hitting 21-year-old went 3-for-4, scoring a careerhigh four runs to go along with a home run and a triple, while falling a double shy of reaching the cycle. His four-run performance was the most by a Rangers player since Adrian Beltre crossed home four times on August 7, 2013 vs. Los Angeles (AL). Odor added a pair of two-hit games over the weekend against the Angels, giving him four multi-hit efforts in his last five contests. Additionally, Rougned tallied four runs scored, a double and two home runs in the final two games of the period. In Texas' most recent road trip, which dated back to July 17th, Odor batted .400 (16-for-40) with 11 runs scored, three doubles, three triples, four home runs and 10 RBI across nine games. For the month of July, the Venezuelan native has logged nine multi-hit games and at least one hit in 14 of his 18 starts, raising his batting average by 37 points in the process. Since the All-Star break, the sophomore second baseman paces the Majors in extra-base hits (10) and total bases (37), and is tied for first with David Peralta of the Arizona Diamondbacks in triples (3). Led by Odor's prolific week at the plate, the Rangers have won four of their last five games and now sit just 4.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins for the second AL Wild Card spot.
