Indians and L.A. Angels complete trade

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has acquired INF ERIC STAMETS ('STAY-mets') from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for OF DAVID MURPHY. 

Stamets, 23, has spent the entire 2015 season at Double-A Arkansas, batting .248 (53-214) with 13 doubles, one triple, 3 home runs, 23 RBI and 17 runs scored in 62 Texas League games. The six-foot, 190-pound shortstop was the Angels 2013 Organizational Defensive Player of the Year and has registered a .981 fielding pct. in 2015, committing just 5 errors in 270 total chances at shortstop. Stamets missed six weeks earlier this season after suffering a dislocated left shoulder and torn labrum while running the bases on April 16 vs. Frisco. 

For his minor league career, the Dublin, Ohio native (Dublin Scioto HS) has batted .262 (344-1312) with 67 doubles, 7 triples, 12 home runs and 119 RBI in 356 games across parts of 4 seasons since being selected by Los Angeles-AL in the sixth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Evansville (IN). 

Murphy hit .296 (61-206) with 12 2B, 1 3B, 5HR & 27 RBI in 84 games for Cleveland this year.
