Braves, Dodgers and Marlins Complete 13-Player Trade

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins completed a 13-player trade today, as Atlanta acquired infielder Hector Olivera, left-handed pitcher Paco Rodriguez and right-handed pitcher Zachary Bird from Los Angeles, as well as Miami's 2016 Competitive Balance Draft Lottery Selection A, in exchange for sending left-handed pitchers Luis Avilan and Alex Wood, right-handed pitchers Bronson Arroyo and Jim Johnson and minor league infielder Jose Peraza to the Dodgers.

Olivera , 30, appeared in 19 games for three different levels of the Dodgers' farm system this season, playing both second base and third base, while batting a combined .348 (24-for-69) with two home runs and seven RBI. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound native of Cuba, who signed a six-year contract with Los Angeles on May 19 of this year, made his debut with Tulsa (AA) on June 4 and hit .318 (7-for-22) in six games. He joined Oklahoma City (AAA) on June 13 and hit .387 (12-for-31) in seven games before landing on the disabled list with a left hamstring injury. He made six rehabilitation appearances with the AZL Dodgers (R), hitting .313 (5-for-16) but remained on the disabled list after his assignment was over.

Olivera compiled a .323 career batting average with 96 home runs and 433 RBI over 10 seasons with Santiago of the Serie Nacional from 2003-2014. In the 90-game Serie Nacional season, Olivera recorded career-best marks of 17 home runs (in 60 games in 2011-2012), 71 RBI (in 84 games in 2008-2009) and a .353 batting average (in 84 games in 2007-2008). He also appeared in several international tournaments, helping Cuba's national team to silver medals in the 2007 and 2009 Baseball World Cup and the 2008 Olympics and a gold medal in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup. He hit .313 (5-for-16) with a home run in 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Rodriguez , 24, did not record a decision while compiling a 2.61 ERA (3 ER/10.1 IP) in 18 games out of the bullpen for Los Angeles this season before being placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 31 with a left elbow strain. He made four rehabilitations appearances with Oklahoma City (AAA) and Rancho Cucamonga (A) before being moved to the 60-day disabled list on July 6. The 6-3, 220-pound native of Miami, Fla., is 4-5 with a 2.53 ERA and two saves in 124 career games over four seasons with the Dodgers.

Originally drafted in the second round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Florida, Rodriguez made his Major League debut that season, pitching in 11 games for the Dodgers. He made a career-high 76 relief appearances in 2013, while striking out 63 in 54.1 innings. The left-hander pitched in 19 Major League games last season after spending time at Albuquerque (AAA) and on the disabled list with a Teres Major strain.

Bird , 21, went 5-7 with a 4.75 ERA (47 ER/89.0 IP) in 19 games, 17 starts for Rancho Cucamonga (A) this season. The right-hander struck out better than a batter per inning for the Quakes, fanning 95 in 89.0 innings, while walking 48. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound native of Jackson, Miss., owns a career record of 16-35 and a 4.74 ERA (185 ER/351.0 IP) in 83 games, including 71 starts, after the Dodgers drafted him in the ninth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Murrah (MS) High School. MLBpipeline.com ranked Bird has the Dodgers' 15^th best prospect.

Avilan, 26, went 2-4 with a 3.58 ERA in 50 relief appearances this season. The left-handed reliever was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent in 2005 and spent his entire career with Atlanta, going 12-5 with a 2.77 ERA over 218 career relief appearances.

Johnson, 32, made 49 appearances out of the bullpen in 2015, going 2-3 with nine saves and a 2.25 ERA. The right-hander was signed by the Braves as a free agent on December 4, 2014 and owns a career record of 25-31 with 133 saves and a 3.45 ERA.

Wood, 24, went 7-6 with a 3.54 ERA over 20 starts this season. The left-hander was drafted by Atlanta in the second round of the 2012 free-agent draft out of the University of Georgia and owns a career record of 21-20 with a 3.54 ERA.

Arroyo, 38, was acquired by Atlanta in a three-player trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 20 and was placed on the Braves' 60-Day Disabled List as he recovered from "Tommy John" surgery (July 15, 2014).
