Texas Rangers Receive Catcher Bobby Wilson on Waiver Claim from Tampa Bay

RHP Ross Ohlendorf placed on unconditional release waivers

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has received catcher Bobby Wilson on a waiver claim from the Tampa Bay Rays. The club will make a corresponding roster move on the 25-man roster when Wilson reports.

In addition, right-handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf, who was designated for assignment on July 27, has been placed on unconditional release waivers.

Wilson, 32, batted .145 (8-55) with 4 RBI in 25 games/16 starts at catcher with Tampa Bay this season. He has thrown out 5 of 20 runners attempting to steal. The right-handed batter opened the season with the Rays, was designated for assignment on June 12, and outrighted to Triple-A Durham on June 14 (.184 in 17 games). He rejoined Tampa Bay on July 29 and had appeared in one game since his return.

Wilson has a career major league average of .201 with 8 homers and 41 RBI in 218 major league games with the Angels (2008-12), Diamondbacks (2014), and Rays (2015).

Ohlendorf had a 1-0 record with one save and a 3.52 ERA (3 ER/7.2 IP) in 8 games during his lone stint with Texas from May 17-June 3. He was placed on the disabled list on June 7, retroactive to June 4, with a right groin strain. He went 1-2 with a 3.07 ERA (5 ER/14.2 IP) over 10 relief appearances with Round Rock on an injury rehabilitation assignment before being designated for assignment. Ohlendorf will become a free agent on Sunday if he clears waivers.

With the addition of Wilson, the Rangers major league roster is at 38 players.
