Mariners Recall INF Jesus Montero & INF Ketel Marte

Infielder Chris Taylor optioned to AAA Tacoma.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves prior to tonight's game at the Minnesota Twins:

Jesus Montero, INF, recalled from AAA Tacoma
Ketel Marte, INF, recalled from AAA Tacoma (pronounced kuh-TELL mar-TAY)
Chris Taylor, INF, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game July 30)

Marte (#4) & Montero (#63) will be available for tonight's game in Minneapolis against the Minnesota Twins.

Marte, 21, will be making his Major League debut. In 65 games with AAA Tacoma, he was hitting .314 (82x261) with 41 runs, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 29 RBI and 20 stolen bases. He appeared in the 2015 Futures Game during All-Star weekend in Cincinnati, going 2-for-2 with an RBI while playing second base and was also elected to start at shortstop in the Triple-A All-Star Game (0x2). The switch-hitting infielder has appeared in games at shortstop (49), second base (14), center field (4) and designated hitter (1). He was originally signed by Seattle as a non-drafted free agent on Aug. 13, 2010. He was rated as the 3^rd-best prospect in the Mariners organization by Baseball America entering the 2015 season.

Montero, 25, is in his second stint with the Mariners. In 5 games with Seattle earlier this season, he hit .300 (3x10) with 1 run, 1 RBI and 3 walks with all of his plate appearance coming against left-handed pitching. In 93 games with AAA Tacoma, he has hit .346 (130x376) with 64 runs, 17 doubles, 6 triples, 16 home runs and 75 RBI with a .938 OPS. In his last six games with Tacoma (since returning from Seattle on July 21), the Pacific Coast League All-Star hit .472 (17x36) with 7 runs, 7 extra-base hits & 7 RBI.

Taylor, 24, hit .170 (16x94) with 9 runs, 3 doubles, 1 triple and 1 RBI during two active stints with Seattle. In 48 games with AAA Tacoma he has hit .289 (56x194) with 9 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs, 16 RBI and was 13-for-17 stealing bases.
