Red Sox recall infielder Deven Marrero from Triple-A Pawtucket

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today recalled infielder Deven Marrero from Triple-A Pawtucket. He fills the roster spot of first baseman Mike Napoli, who was traded to the Texas Rangers last night along with cash considerations in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Marrero, 24, rejoins the Red Sox for the second major league stint of his career, both this year. In his first stint with Boston (June 25-July 20), the Miami, FL native appeared in five games, going 1-for-7 with a run scored while making three appearances (one start) at second base and one at shortstop. He made his big league debut for the Red Sox on June 28 at Tampa Bay. For Pawtucket this year, Marrero was hitting .237 (65-for-274) with 11 doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 22 RBI in 78 games. Defensively, he has appeared in 70 minor league games this year at shortstop, seven at second base, and one at third base.
