Orioles select the contract of RHP Steve Johnson and recall RHP Oliver Drake from Triple-A Norfolk

The Orioles today announced that they have selected the contract of RHP STEVE JOHNSON and recalled RHP OLIVER DRAKE from Triple-A Norfolk.

Johnson, 28, went 4-1 with a 2.30 ERA (54.2IP, 14ER) in 32 games (three starts) with the Tides this season. In 11 games (two starts) since the Triple-A All-Star break, he posted a 0.93 ERA (19.1IP, 2ER) including a 0.55 ERA (16.1IP, ER) over nine games (two starts) in August. He did not allow a run over his last five appearances (9.0IP) with Norfolk. Johnson has gone 5-1 with a 3.67 ERA (54.0IP, 22ER) and 66 strikeouts in 21 Major League games (five starts), posting an 11.00 strikeouts per 9.0 innings ratio. Johnson will wear No. 52.

Drake, 28, went 23-for-23 in save opportunities and posted a 0.82 ERA (44.0IP, 4ER) in 42 games with the Tides this season. He registered a 26-game scoreless streak from April 27-August 6 with Norfolk (26.0IP) and was selected to the Triple-A All-Star Game. Drake made his Major League debut on May 23 at Miami and pitched to a 3.52 ERA (7.2IP, 3ER) in five games with the Orioles this season.
