13th Annual Colorado Rockies Adult Leadership Award

Ceremonies honoring Adult Leaders and Youth Essay Winners at Coors Field on Saturday, September 26

DENVER - During the month of September, the Colorado Rockies are honoring several individuals in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at Coors Field. These efforts will culminate on Saturday, September 26 with pregame onfield ceremonies honoring the finalists and winner of the Colorado Rockies Adult Leadership Award as well as the youth winners of the Hispanic Heritage Youth Essay Contest. This season marks the thirteenth year that the Colorado Rockies organization has honored exceptional individuals in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Rockies will honor four finalists this year for the positive work they have done in the Hispanic community. Each of the finalists listed below will be honored with an individual pregame ceremony this month, and then all four will be honored as a group prior to the game on Saturday, September 26, when the overall winner will be announced. An adjoining ceremony that day wll honor the winners of the annual Youth Essay Contest in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and on the topic of "Heroes," using baseball legend and outstanding humanitarian Roberto Clemente as an inspirational example. All student participants in the essay contest receive tickets to September games and the winners receive Rockies merchandise and tickets to the September 26 game. Past years have seen more than 2,000 Denver area students submit essays for this annual contest. 

The following adult leadership finalists will be recognized during the month of September, listed in ceremony date order (see attached for more details about each individual or visit www.Rockies.com/Leadership):

Laura Morales- pregame ceremony on September 3

Gianina Irlando- pregame ceremony on September 6

Tony Montoya- pregame ceremony on September 18

Judge Christine Arguello- pregame ceremony on September 20

The Colorado Rockies Adult Leadership Award was created in 2002 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a commitment to the Hispanic community through community involvement, the promotion of family values and personal achievements. Eligible recipients are Colorado residents, do not need to be of Hispanic heritage, but must be actively involved in the Hispanic community. The winner's name will be placed on a plaque displayed inside Coors Field at Gate C, and the winner will also receive Season Tickets for the Rockies 2016 season.
