Andrew Mccutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates Voted the Budweiser Presents National League Player of The Month for August

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has been voted the Budweiser Presents National League Player of the Month for August. Budweiser, the official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball and sponsor for 24 of 30 MLB clubs, is also the presenting sponsor of the American League Player of the Month Award.

In 27 games last month, McCutchen hit .348 (32-for-92) with five home runs, 19 RBI and 18 runs scored. He ranked third among qualifying NL leaders in hitting and slugging percentage (.609), while posting the League's second-best on-base percentage (.470). The five-time NL All-Star clubbed seven doubles and a triple, while swiping two bases. McCutchen's 56 total bases were tied for the eighth-most in the NL last month.

The Florida native capped the month of August by hitting safely in eight straight contests, posting multi-hit games in six of those. In that span, McCutchen hit .467 (14-for-30) with a pair of home runs and seven RBI while helping the NL Wild Card-leading Pirates to a 6-2 record. He clubbed his 20th homer of the season and tied a season high with four RBI in the Bucs' 7-2 win at Miami on August 26th. It marks the fifth consecutive season in which the 2013 NL Most Valuable Player has reached the 20-home run threshold, joining Jason Bay (2004-08), Willie Stargell (1963-76), Ralph Kiner (1946-52) and Frank Thomas (1953-58) as the only Pirates hitters to hit at least 20 home runs in five-or-more straight seasons. McCutchen started the month of August with a torrid stretch, earning NL Player of the Week accolades for the sixth time in his career after hitting .563 with a 1.063 slugging percentage and .652 on-base percentage from August 3rd-9th. The 28-year-old slugger's 85 RBI currently rank third in the NL, while his .404 on-base percentage ranks fourth. This is his fourth career monthly award, having won most recently for the month of June 2014.

Other players receiving votes included Cincinnati's Joey Votto (.314, 20 R, 27 H, 6 HR, 14 RBI, .616 SLG, .524 OBP); Arizona's A.J. Pollock (.377, 24 R, 40 H, 8 2B, 3 HR, 13 RBI, .575 SLG, .412 OBP); Chicago's Kris Bryant (.330, 19 R, 33 H, 7 HR, 20 RBI, .620 SLG, .422 OBP) and Anthony Rizzo (.265, 17 R, 7 HR, 21 RBI, .529 SLG); New York's Yoenis Cespedes (.275, 20 R, 8 HR, 23 RBI, .542 SLG); and Washington's Ryan Zimmerman (.277, 13 R, 26 H, 7 HR, 28 RBI, .585 SLG).

The Budweiser Presents National League Player of the Month for August 2015, Andrew McCutchen, will receive a specially designed trophy, suitably engraved, in recognition of his accomplishment.
