Braves announce George Lombard as Minor League Field Coordinator

The Atlanta Braves announced today that George Lombard has been named as the Braves' Minor League Field Coordinator.

Lombard, who makes his return to the organization that drafted him in 1994, will also serve as the team's minor league outfield and baserunning coordinator. He spent the previous six seasons in the Boston Red Sox organization, most recently as their minor league outfield and baserunning coordinator from 2013 through the 2015 season. Prior to that role, he managed the Gulf Coast League Red Sox in 2011 and 2012, and in 2010 he served as the hitting coach for the rookie-level Lowell Spinners.

In his new role, Lombard will report to Director of Player Development Dave Trembley and Assistant Director of Player Development Jonathan Schuerholz.

The former outfielder was selected by the Braves in the second round of the 1994 free-agent draft out of Lovett High School in Atlanta, Ga. He made his Major League debut in 1998 with the Braves at the age of 22 and appeared in 39 games for Atlanta over three seasons (1998-2000). He totaled 144 games at the major league level from 1998 to 2006 with the Braves, Detroit Tigers, and Washington Nationals, and also played 16 seasons in the minor leagues for seven different organizations.
