Red Sox place left fielder Hanley Ramirez on 15-day disabled list

The Boston Red Sox today placed left fielder Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to August 27) due to right shoulder inflammation.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Ramirez, 31, has missed seven games since his last appearance in a game on August 26 against the White Sox in Chicago. Overall this season, he has batted .249 (100-for-401) with 12 doubles, a triple, 19 home runs, 53 RBI, 21 walks, and six stolen bases in 105 games. The right-handed batter ranks second on the team in home runs, trailing only David Ortiz (29), and he is tied for the team lead with eight game-winning RBI. A three-time All-Star, Ramirez has hit .296 (1,503-for-5,078) with 315 doubles, 31 triples, 210 home runs, 707 RBI, and 267 stolen bases in 1,328 career major league games between the Red Sox (2005, 2015), Marlins (2006-12), and Dodgers (2012-14).

With this move, Boston's active major league roster is now at 27.
