Orioles announce 2016 schedule

Opening Day slated for April 4 at Oriole Park against the Minnesota Twins

The Orioles today announced that they will open the 2016 season at Oriole Park against the Minnesota Twins as part of a six-game homestand beginning with Opening Day on Monday, April 4. The Orioles will continue the first homestand of the season with a three-game series against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays, April 8-10. 

The Orioles will again host each American League East divisional opponent for three series throughout the season. The Boston Red Sox will play a total of 10 games in Baltimore, May 30-June 2, August 16-17, and September 19-22. The Rays will also visit Charm City for 10 games, April 8-10, June 24-26, and September 15-18. The Orioles will host the New York Yankees, May 3-5, June 3-5, and September 2-4. The Blue Jays will travel to Baltimore, April 19-21, June 17-19, and August 29-31.

The 2016 Interleague slate features visits to Baltimore by the San Diego Padres (June 21-22), Colorado Rockies (July 25-27), Washington Nationals (August 22-23), and Arizona Diamondbacks (September 23-25). The Orioles' road schedule against National League opponents will include a rematch of the 1966 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium (July 4-6) as well as visits to the Padres (June 28-29), San Francisco Giants (August 12-14), and Nationals (August 24-25) as part of Interleague Play.

Baltimore will host the rest of the AL once: Minnesota Twins (April 4-7), Chicago White Sox (April 28-May 1), Oakland Athletics (May 6-8), Detroit Tigers (May 12-15), Seattle Mariners (May 17-19), Kansas City Royals (June 6-8), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (July 8-10), Cleveland Indians (July 22-24), Texas Rangers (August 2-4), and Houston Astros (August 18-21).

The Orioles home schedule will also consist of three games played on national holidays including Mother's Day (May 8 vs. Oakland), Memorial Day (May 30 vs. Boston), and Father's Day (June 19 vs. Toronto).

The Orioles will play 16 home games in both May and June, their busiest months at Oriole Park. Overall, the Birds will play 47 of the 88 games prior to the All-Star break (July 11-14) at home. The Orioles will play a pair of 10-game homestands; April 28-May 8 (Chicago-AL, New York-AL, and Oakland) and May 30-June 8 (Boston, New York-AL, and Kansas City) before finishing the home portion of their schedule with an 11-game homestand, September 15-25 (Tampa Bay, Boston, and Arizona).

The Orioles will play 16 of 25 games in July on the road. Baltimore will also travel for a 10-game road trip, August 5-14 (at Chicago-AL, Oakland, and San Francisco) and three nine-game road trips; May 20-29 (at Los Angeles-AL, Houston, and Cleveland), June 28-July 6 (at San Diego, Seattle, and Los Angeles-NL), and September 5-14 (at Tampa Bay, Detroit, and Boston). The Orioles will finish the regular season with a six-game road trip to Toronto (September 27-29) and New York-AL (September 30-October 2).
