Nationals recall RHP Erik Davis and INF Wilmer Difo

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Erik Davis and infielder Wilmer Difo from Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday. President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

Davis, 28, returns to the Major Leagues for the first time since 2013, making his recovery this season from April, 2014, Tommy John surgery. The right-handed reliever, who made his MLB debut June 2, 2013 at Atlanta and appeared in 10 games for the Nationals that year, was 1-2 with a 3.88 ERA across three levels of the Nationals' system this season (Single-A Potomac, Double-A Harrisburg, and Triple-A Syracuse).

Davis, who has struck out 8.6 batters per nine innings over the course of 595.0 minor league innings in his career, was 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA in 10 Major League appearances (8.2 IP) out of the Nationals' bullpen. He's struck out 12 of the 38 Major League batters he's faced.

Difo, 23, returns to the Nationals for the fourth time this season. The talented infielder finished his Minor League season hitting .286 with a .325 on-base percentage and a .412 slugging percentage. He clubbed 28 doubles, six triples and five home runs. The speedy Difo also stole 30 bases in the minor leagues in 2015 and was caught just twice.

Difo has appeared in eight Major League games this season, making his Major League debut on May 19 with a pinch-hit single against the New York Yankees. Difo is 1-for-8 and has not yet started a game for Washington.
