Padres announce changes to scouting and player development staffs

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres announced today several changes to the organization's scouting and player development staffs. Logan White will now serve as senior advisor to the general manager/director of player personnel, a role in which he will expand his focus to include amateur and international scouting responsibilities. Pete DeYoung, formerly the club's West Coast regional supervisor, has been promoted to director of professional scouting. Ryley Westman, formerly the organization's catching coordinator, has been promoted to coordinator of instruction, expanding his role to include working with the minor league field coordinator on the instruction portion of player development. Josh Emmerick, formerly an amateur scout, has been promoted to West Coast regional supervisor, while Chris Kelly has been promoted to an amateur cross-checker. The organization has also hired Shaun Cole, who served most recently as director of the 18U National Team for Team USA, as coordinator of player development. In addition, Tim Holt, formerly a regional amateur scouting supervisor will transition to professional scouting. Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller made the announcements. 

Cole previously served as director of the 18U National Team for Team USA, a position he was named to in June 2014. Prior to joining Team USA, he worked at the University of Arizona, where he was named the 2012 Collegiate Baseball National Pitching Coach of the Year as the Wildcats won their fourth NCAA Division I Baseball Championship that season. A graduate of William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Cole also served in baseball operations for the Tacoma Rainiers, as well as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Wash.
