Braves announce Mike Maroth as Minor League rehabilitation pitching coordinator
The Atlanta Braves announced today that Mike Maroth has been named as theBraves' Minor League Rehabilitation Pitching Coordinator.
Maroth, who is based at the Braves' player development complex in Orlando, Fla., will oversee the organization's rehabilitation pitching program. In his new role, Maroth will report to Director of Player Development Dave Trembley and Assistant Director of Player Development Jonathan Schuerholz.
Maroth spent the previous four seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization, most recently as their Triple-A pitching coach during the 2015 season. Prior to that role, he served as pitching coach for the Single-A Lakeland Tigers for three seasons, from 2012 to 2014. The 2012 campaign marked Maroth's first appointment as a professional coach.
The former left-handed pitcher was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 1998 free-agent draft. He was traded from the Red Sox to the Tigers in 1999 and made his Major League debut in 2002 with Detroit at the age of 24. He appeared in 161 career games at the Major League level for the Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals, including 147 contests over six seasons from 2002 to 2007 with Detroit, and amassed a career record of 50-67 with a 5.05 ERA. He pitched in 14 games for the Cardinals in his final season (2007) and overall, Maroth pitched for five different organizations spanning 12 major and minor league seasons.
Dan Meyer, who served as the Braves' minor league rehabilitation pitching coordinator in 2015, will remain with the organization in a role to be announced.
