Orlando Arcia named MILB.com Breakout Prospect of the Year

Shortstop earns honor after receiving Robin Yount Performance Player of the Year Award and Rawlings Gold Glove Award®

Milwaukee Brewers prospect Orlando Arcia was named Breakout Prospect of the Year by MiLB.com today. Rated the 12th-best prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com, Arcia was named the 2015 Brewers Minor League Player of the Year and was the recipient of the Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award® for excellence in defense at shortstop.

Arcia finished his first season at the Double-A level batting .307/.347/.453 with 37 doubles, seven triples, eight homers, 69 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 129 games. The 21-year-old finished his campaign leading the league in doubles and ranked among the leaders in several categories including at-bats (2nd, 512), total bases (2nd, 232), extra-base hits (3rd, 52), RBI (4th), batting average (5th), slugging percentage (5th) and runs (5th, 74). He set new career-highs in almost every hitting category including runs, hits, doubles, triples and home runs. 
 
The Venezuelan native was signed by the Brewers as a non-drafted free agent in 2010. He was named both a midseason and postseason Southern League All-Star in 2015. Arcia was honored with the League's Player of the Week award for May 25-June 1 when he batted .400 (10-25) with 6 runs, 5 doubles, a homer, 5 RBI and 2 walks in 6 games. In addition, he was selected to represent the World Team in the 2015 Futures Game at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Arcia is ranked as the top prospect in the organization according to MLB.com.
 
Arcia helped the Shuckers reach the Southern League Championship Series, where they fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts, three games to two in a best-of-five game series. Arcia was named the Southern League Player of the Postseason by MiLB.com after going 12-for-30 with 7 extra-base hits and 10 RBI in eight games.
