White Sox make one-year qualifying offer to Jeff Samardzija

The Chicago White Sox have made a one-year, $15.8-million qualifying offer to right-handed pitcher Jeff Samardzija.

Samardzija, 30, went 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA (118 ER/214.0 IP) and 163 strikeouts over 32 starts last season, his first with the White Sox after being acquired from Oakland in a six-player trade on December 9, 2014.

Samardzija has gone 47-61 with a 4.09 ERA (451 ER/991.2 IP) and 901 strikeouts in 254 career games (131 starts) over eight major-league seasons with the Cubs (2008-14), Athletics (2014) and White Sox (2015).
