Texas Rangers make 2016 qualifying contract offer to RHP Yovani Gallardo

The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has made a qualifying 2016 contract offer to free agent pitcher Yovani Gallardo.

Gallardo has until Friday, November 13, at 4:00 p.m. CST to accept or decline the offer. If he accepts the offer, he is considered a signed player for 2016. If he declines the offer, the Rangers will gain an additional selection after the first round in the 2016 Draft if he should sign with another team.

Texas can make a qualifying offer to any XXB Type Free Agent that was with the Rangers for the entire 2015 season. The team did not make a qualifying offer to its other eligible free agent, pitcher Colby Lewis. The Rangers can still negotiate with Lewis, but would not receive any draft pick compensation if he signs with another club.

40-MAN ROSTER TRANSACTIONS: The Rangers have also reinstated right-handed pitchers Yu Darvish and Nick Tepesch and left-handed pitcher Alex Claudio from the 60-day disabled list. Darvish (right elbow ligament surgery) and Tepesch (elbow injury; thoracic outlet syndrome surgery) both missed all of 2015 and Claudio (left groin strain) was sidelined for the last six weeks of the season. Claudio was 3-1, 2.93 in 29 games at Triple-ARound Rock and 1-1, 2.87 in 18 games with Texas in 2015. The Rangers now have 35 players on their major league roster.
