Red Sox announce personnel moves on sports medicine service staff

The Boston Red Sox today named Kiyoshi Momose, MA, CSCS Strength and Conditioning Coach for the major league team. In addition, Mike Roose, MS, CSCS was named Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the club.

 

Red Sox President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.

 

Momose, 43, spent the previous 15 years (2001-15) in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in a variety of roles, most recently as Strength and Conditioning Specialist at the major league level. In addition to working with the big league club, Momose also oversaw the Pirates' strength and conditioning program at their academy in the Dominican Republic. A native of Nagano, Japan, Momose earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Nippon College of Physical Education and his master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Central Florida. Momose, who is fluent in Japanese, English, and Spanish, served as strength and conditioning coach for the team of MLB stars managed by Red Sox skipper John Farrell that played in the Japan All-Star Series in November 2014. Momose began his baseball career as an intern in the Tampa Bay Rays minor league system.

 

Roose, 34, just completed his fourth year as Red Sox Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. Overall, the Cumberland, RI native will enter his eighth year in the organization in 2016, after beginning with the club in 2009 as an intern with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox. He served as strength and conditioning coach for the Pawtucket Red Sox in 2010 and 2011. Roose, who earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Florida State University and his master's degree in kinesiology from Georgia Southern University, operated in four combat tours throughout Afghanistan and Iraq with the United States Air Force.
