Ron Roenicke named Angels third base coach

The Angels announced that Ron Roenicke has been named as the Club's third base coach. Terms of the deal are undisclosed at this time. At the same time, Gary DiSarcina will take over as first base coach, Alfredo Griffin named infield coach and Steve Soliz as catching & information coach. Keith Johnson will manage triple-A Salt Lake for the 2016 campaign. Earlier this offseason, the Club named Charles Nagy pitching coach, Dave Hansen hitting coach and Paul Sorrento assistant hitting coach. Today's announcements were made by General Manager Billy Eppler. 

Roenicke, 59, returns to the Angels after previously serving on Mike Scioscia's staff from 2000-10 as third base coach (2000-05) and bench coach (2006-10). The Covina, CA native managed the Milwaukee Brewers to a 342-311 record from 2011-15, before being replaced in May 2015. He joined the Los Angeles Dodgers coaching staff in August as third base coach for the remainder of the 2015 campaign.

Roenicke guided the Brewers to 96 wins and an N.L. Central Division title in his first year as skipper in 2011 and finished second in N.L. Manager of the Year voting to Kirk Gibson. He also owns a career record of 346-283 as a minor league manager in the Dodgers (1994-95, '97-98) and Giants (1999) organizations.

A former Major League outfielder, Roenicke batted .238 (256/1076) with 17 home runs and 113 RBI in 527 career games across eight seasons with the Dodgers (1981-83), Mariners (1983), Padres (1984), Giants (1985), Phillies (1986-87) and Reds (1988).
