Dodgers Foundation to Join in 11th Annual Turkey Giveaway and Health Fair

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will support Progress California's 11th annual Turkey Giveaway and Health Fair at the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Compton on Tuesday, November 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. LADF will join community leaders including Senator Isadore Hall III - 35th SD, California State Treasurer John Chiang, Assemblymember Mike Gipson - 64th AD, Compton Mayor Aja Brown, Councilmember Isaac Galvan, Councilmember Emma Sharif and Councilmember Janna Zurita, in donating 10,000 free holiday turkeys to underserved families in Compton and surrounding communities. The turkeys will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis at MLB Urban Youth Academy, 901 E. Artesia Blvd in Compton.

Representatives will be on hand to provide thousands of free blood pressure and diabetes tests, as well as to share information on insurance enrollment. Participants will also receive information on healthy eating during the holidays to further raise awareness and reduce incidents of obesity.

LADF Executive Director Nichol Whiteman will join Senator Hall, Mayor Brown, Councilmember Galvan and KJLH's Big Pee Wee in throwing the ceremonial first pitch. Dodger Alumni League Members Billy Ashley, Lee Lacy and Tim Leary will be participating in the meal distribution and signing autographs. The event will include family-friendly activities including the Dodger pitching inflatable, Dodger giveaways and photos with the Dodger character. SportsNet LA broadcasters John Hartung and Alanna Rizzo will be in attendance to serve families. LADF partner Read Conmigo will be on hand to give away bilingual books to all children.
