Rockies acquire RHP Yency Almonte from White Sox

The Colorado Rockies announced on Tuesday that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tommy Kahnle. Kahnle was recently designated for assignment by Colorado on Nov. 20. 
 
  • Almonte, 21, is 16-16 with a 4.70 ERA (239.1 IP, 125 ER) in 51 appearances, 44 starts, across four seasons in the Minor Leagues … he split time between Single-A Kannapolis and High-A Winston-Salem in the White Sox organization in 2015, going a combined 11-7 with a 3.41 ERA (137.1 IP, 52 ER), 38 walks and 110 strikeouts … Almonte was acquired by the White Sox Feb. 4, 2015 from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for infielder Gordon Beckham … he was originally drafted by the Angels in the 17th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Fla. … he will be assigned to High-A Modesto.

 

  • Kahnle, 26, began the 2015 season with Triple-A Albuquerque before being recalled by the Rockies on June 1 … in 36 games with the Rockies, he went 0-1 with two saves and a 4.86 ERA (33.1 IP, 18 ER) … was originally drafted by the Yankees in the fifth round of the First-Year Player Draft in 2010 … was drafted by the Rockies in the Rule 5 draft in 2013 … was 2-2 with a 4.41 (102.0 IP, 50 ER) in 90 games over parts of two seasons with Colorado.
 
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
