Rockies acquire LHP Wander Cabrera from Cubs for LHP Rex Brothers

The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Wander Cabrera from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for left-handed pitcher Rex Brothers. Brothers was recently designated for assignment by Colorado on Nov. 20. 

  • Cabrera, 18, recently completed his first professional season as a member of the Dominican Summer League Cubs, going 4-3 with a 2.34 ERA (42.1 IP, 11 ER) in 14 appearances, seven starts … the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native originally signed with the Cubs on July 3, 2014.
  • Brothers, 27, began the 2015 season with Triple-A Albuquerque, where he went 5-2 with a 4.46 ERA (42.1 IP, 21 ER) … in two stints with the Rockies in 2015, Brothers went 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA (10.1 IP, 2 ER) … was originally drafted by the Rockies in the first round (34th pick) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft … was 16-11 with a 3.42 ERA (242.1 IP, 92 ER) in 286 appearances for the Rockies across parts of five seasons.

 
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
