Braves agree to terms with reliever Jim Johnson on one-year contract

The Atlanta Braves announced today that they have agreed to terms with free-agent right-handed pitcher Jim Johnson on a one-year Major League contract for the 2016 season. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.

Johnson, 32, signed with Atlanta as a free agent last off-season and made 49 appearances for the Braves in 2015, posting nine saves and a 2.25 ERA. He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of a three-teamdeal in July. His overall season totals included 10 saves and a 4.46 ERA in 72 appearances.

Over 10 Major League seasons, Johnson owns a 25-34 record with a 3.69 ERA and 134 saves in 486 appearances (one start). He has allowed only 34 home runs in 520.0 career innings pitched and his rate of 0.59 homers allowed per nine innings pitched ranks fourth among all active relievers who have worked at least 500 career innings. A 2012 American League All-Star, Johnson led the majors with back-to-back 50-save seasons in 2012 (51) and 2013 (50).

He was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 2001 draft and has also made Major League appearances with the Orioles, Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers.
