Indians acquire OF Collin Cowgill from the Los Angeles Angels

CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has acquired OF Collin Cowgill from the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations.

Cowgill, 29, owns a career Major League batting average of .236 (160-677) with 22 doubles, 4 triples, 12 home runs and 57 RBI in 308 Major League games with four Major League teams across five seasons since 2011. The right-handed batting native of Lexington, KY has spent the last two and a half seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, appearing in 55 games with the Angels in 2015 across all 3 outfield positions despite missing 84 games, May 26-August 31, with a sprained right wrist. He owns a career batting average of .271 (94-347, .733 OPS) against left-handed pitching at the Major League level. He began his professional career in 2008 after being selected by Arizona in the 5th round of the First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Kentucky.

To allow room for Cowgill on the 40-man roster, the club has designated LHP Nick Hagadone for assignment. Additionally, the Indians did not tender a contract to Hagadone for the 2016 season.
