D-backs acquire RHP Shelby Miller and LHP Gabe Speier from the Braves for OF Ender Inciarte, RHP Aaron Blair and INF Dansby Swanson

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) have acquired 2015 National League All-Star right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller (@ShelbyMiller19) and left-handed pitcher Gabe Speier (@GabeSpeier) from the Atlanta Braves for outfielder Ender Inciarte, right-handed pitcher Aaron Blair and infielder Dansby Swanson, as announced by D-backs Sr. Vice President & General Manager Dave Stewart.

Miller, 25, made 33 starts for the Braves in 2015 and finished among NL leaders in quality starts (T-10th, 21), ERA (11th, 3.02), opponents average (11th, .238) and opponent OPS (12th, .663). He also went 6-17 with 171 strikeouts, and allowed 1 run or fewer on 15 occasions last season.

Among active pitchers with at least 90 starts, Miller's career 3.22 ERA (206 ER in 575.5 IP) is the eighth best, trailing Clayton Kershaw (2.43), Chris Sale (2.91), Adam Wainwright (2.98), Madison Bumgarner (3.04), David Price (3.09), Stephen Strasburg (3.09) and Felix Hernandez (3.11). Zack Greinke, who Arizona signed as a free agent yesterday, is 13th with a 3.35 ERA.

Miller, who held the D-backs hitless through 7.0 innings on August 16 before Nick Ahmed's single, was acquired by Atlanta from the St. Louis Cardinals on Nov. 17, 2014, along with RHP Tyrell Jenkins for outfielder Jason Heyward and right-handed pitcher Jordan Walden.

In 4 Major League seasons with St. Louis (2012-14) and Atlanta, Miller is 32-25 with 4 complete games in 102 games (96 starts). He also finished third in the NL Rookie of the Year balloting in 2013 after going 15-9 with a 3.06 ERA (59 ER in 173.1 IP) in 31 starts. Miller was selected by the Cardinals in the first round (19th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Speier, 20, went 4-2 with a 2.86 ERA (14 ER in 44.0 IP) in 33 relief appearances with Single-A West Michigan. He is 7-2 with a 2.34 ERA (20 ER in 77.0 IP) in 45 games (8 starts) in 3 Minor League seasons in the Boston Red Sox (2013-14) and Detroit Tigers' organizations.

Speier, the nephew of former Major Leaguer Chris Speier, was acquired by Atlanta from Detroit on November 20, along with left-handed pitcher Ian Krol, for outfielder Cameron Maybin. He was also part of the 4-player trade that involved outfielder Yoenis Cespedes last December, and was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 19th round in 2013.

Inciarte, 25, hit .303 (159-for-524) with 27 doubles, 5 triples, 6 home runs and 45 RBI in 132 games with Arizona in 2015.

Blair, 23, combined to go 13-5 with a 2.92 ERA (52 ER in 160.1 IP) with Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno last season.

Swanson, 21, was the first overall selection in 2015 and hit .289 (24-for-83) with 1 homer and 11 RBI in 22 games with Rookie Advanced Hillsboro.
