Mets sign Alejandro De Aza

FLUSHING, N.Y., December 23, 2015 -- The New York Mets today announced the club has signed outfielder Alejandro De Aza to a one-year contract.

De Aza, 31, hit .262 (85-325) with 17 doubles, seven triples, seven home runs, 35 RBI and seven stolen bases in 114 combined games with the Red Sox, Giants and Orioles in 2015. He hit .278 (78-281) with seven home runs vs. righthanders last season. De Aza started 51 games in leftfield, 29 in rightfield and one in centerfield in 2015.

The 6-0, 195-pound, lefthanded-hitter batted .252 (120-477) with 24 doubles, eight triples, eight home runs, 41 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 142 games between the White Sox and Orioles in 2014. The Guaymate, DR native hit .333 (7-21) with three doubles and three RBI in six playoff games for Baltimore.

De Aza established career highs with 17 home runs, 62 RBI and 84 runs scored in 2013 with the White Sox. He swiped a career-high 26 bases in 2012.

He has hit .267 (609-2,279) with 120 doubles, 30 triples, 45 home runs, 224 RBI and 86 stolen bases in 680 major league games with the Marlins, White Sox, Orioles, Red Sox and Giants. De Aza is a lifetime .274 (500-1,822) hitter with 40 home runs vs. righthanded pitching.
