The Boston Red Sox have added eight non-roster invitees to the team's 2016 Spring Training roster: infielders Josh Rutledge and Sam Travis, outfielders Brennan Boesch and Allen Craig, catcher Sandy Leon, and pitchers Roman Mendez, Kyle Martin, and Danny Rosenbaum.

The Red Sox have now invited a total of 14 players to Major League Spring Training camp as non-roster invitees:
 
Brennan Boesch, OF - Boesch, 30, played in 51 games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2015, going 13-for-89 (.146) with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI. The left-handed batter also hit .326 (61-for-187) in 51 games at Triple-A Louisville last year, third among International Leaguers with at least 175 at-bats. Signed by the Detroit Tigers as a third-round selection in the 2006 June Draft, Boesch is a career .250 hitter (394-for-1,577) in 481 major league games over six seasons with the Tigers (2010-12), New York Yankees (2013), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2014), and Reds (2015).
 
Allen Craig, 1B/OF - Craig, 31, began the 2015 season with Boston and hit .152 (12-for-79) in 36 games (15 starts) over two stints with the Red Sox. Acquired from St. Louis on July 31, 2014, the right-handed batter spent the majority of last season with Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .274 (94-for-343) in 93 games and ranking third in the International League in on-base percentage (.368). A 2013 NL All-Star, Craig has hit .276 (506-for-1,831) with 59 home runs and 296 RBI in 534 career major league games between the Cardinals (2010-14) and Red Sox (2014-15).
 
William Cuevas, RHP - Cuevas, 25, has spent seven seasons in the Red Sox farm system (2009-15), going 38-30 with six saves, a 3.53 ERA (234 ER/597.1 IP), and 500 strikeouts compared to 175 walks. In 2015, he made 26 starts between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket and tied for the lead among Red Sox minor leaguers in wins, posting an 11-7 record with a 3.17 ERA and 128 strikeouts in 136.1 innings. The native of Venezuela started the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Game and was named the Sea Dogs' 2015 Pitcher of the Year.
 
Chris Dominguez, 3B - Dominguez, 29, has appeared at first base, third base, left field, and right field in 22 career major league games between the San Francisco Giants (2014) and Cincinnati Reds (2015), batting .175 (7-for-40) with a double, triple, two home runs, and five RBI. The Giants' third-round selection in the 2009 June Draft, the right-handed hitter had a .261 average (6-for-23) in 14 games for the Reds in 2015, but spent most of the year with Triple-A Louisville, batting .223 (66-for-296) with 19 doubles, nine homers, and 36 RBI. Over 785 minor league games, Dominguez has hit .264 (780-for-2,949) with 157 doubles, 16 triples, 100 home runs, and 456 RBI.
 
Ryan LaMarre, OF - A second-round selection by the Reds in 2010, the 27-year-old LaMarre made his major league debut with Cincinnati last season. In 21 major league games, he went 2-for-25 (.080) while appearing at center field (13 games), left field (2 games), and right field (1 game). Rated by Baseball America as the best defensive outfielder in the Cincinnati system in four straight years entering 2011-14, the right-handed batter has hit .261 (525-for-2,008) with 91 doubles, 11 triples, 36 home runs, 174 RBI, 199 walks, and a .340 on-base percentage in 560 minor league games, all in the Reds' system.
 
Sandy Leon, C - Leon, 26, caught four of Boston's 10 shutouts in 2015 despite making only 33 starts, leading club backstops with a 3.47 catcher ERA and ranking first among major league catchers (minimum 200.0 innings caught) with a 50% stolen base percentage (10 SB/10 CS). Signed by Washington as a non-drafted free agent in 2007 and acquired by Boston on March 30, 2015, the switch-hitter has played in 75 major league games with the Nationals (2012-14) and Red Sox (2015), throwing out 16 of 35 (46%) potential base stealers while posting a 3.31 catcher ERA and batting .187 (39-for-209).
 
Kyle Martin, RHP - Martin, 24, is 12-8 with a 3.43 ERA (62 ER/162.2 IP) in 84 career minor league appearances, all in relief in the Red Sox organization. The right-hander spent the majority of the 2015 season with Double-A Portland, where he was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA (21 ER/42.0 IP) while holding lefties to a .210 batting average (17-for-81) in 27 appearances. A ninth-round selection in the 2013 June Draft, Martin has averaged 9.07 strikeouts and only 2.32 walks per nine innings pitched in his career (164 SO, 42 BB).
 
Roman Mendez, RHP - Mendez, 25, combined with Boston and Texas last season to go 0-1 with a 5.27 ERA (8 ER/13.2 IP) in 15 major league appearances, all in relief. Claimed by Boston off waivers on September 11, the right-hander spent most of 2015 with Texas' Triple-A Round Rock, where he went 3-2 with a 2.78 ERA (11 ER/35.2 IP) and 33 strikeouts in 30 relief outings. Mendez has posted a 3.09 ERA (16 ER/46.2 IP) between the Rangers (2014-15) and Red Sox (2015) and is 28-21 with a 3.56 ERA (182 ER/460.1 IP) in 163 career minor league appearances (73 starts).
 
Sean O'Sullivan, RHP - O'Sullivan, 28, has made 66 appearances (52 starts) over parts of six major league seasons with the Angels (2009-10), Kansas City Royals (2010-11), San Diego Padres (2013), and Philadelphia Phillies (2014-15), going 11-23 with a 5.95 ERA (200 ER/302.1 IP). The right-hander posted a 1-6 record with a 6.08 ERA (48 ER/71.0 IP) in 13 starts for the Phillies to begin last season, including a 3.54 ERA (11 ER/28.0 IP) in his first five outings of the year. He closed out 2015 going 5-2 with a 3.20 ERA (20 ER/56.1 IP) and 41 strikeouts in nine starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
 
Danny Rosenbaum, LHP - Rosenbaum, 28, enters his eighth season in professional baseball, and his second in the Red Sox organization. He began the 2015 season on the disabled list recovering from Tommy John surgery, and went on to post a 0-8 record with a 5.81 ERA (37 ER/57.1 IP) between Double-A Portland (11 starts) and Short-A Lowell (4 rehab starts), also going 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA (1 ER/10.2 IP) and .200 opponent average (8-for-40) in nine appearances with Arizona Fall League champion Scottsdale. Selected by Washington in the 2009 June Draft, Rosenbaum is 34-44 with a 3.33 ERA (275 ER/743.1 IP) in 136 career minor league appearances (131 starts).
 
Josh Rutledge, INF - Rutledge, 26, enters his first full season in the Red Sox organization after being acquired from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on July 27, 2015. The right-handed batter hit .284 (21-for-74) in 39 games with Boston last year and also had a .274 average (85-for-310) in 78 games with the Angels' Triple-A Salt Lake affiliate. A third-round selection by Colorado in the 2010 June Draft, Rutledge has played shortstop (140 games), second base (112 games), and third base (10 games) in 305 major league games between the Rockies (2012-14) and Red Sox (2015).
 
Ali Solis, C - Solis, 28, has played 13 major league games between the San Diego Padres (2012) and Tampa Bay Rays (2014), going hitless in 10 at-bats with one RBI. In 567 career minor league games with the Padres (2006-12), Pittsburgh Pirates (2013), Rays (2014), and Los Angeles Dodgers (2015) organizations, he has hit .222 (414-for-1,864) with 91 doubles, seven triples, 31 homers, and 205 RBI. Last year, the right-handed hitter went 34-for-234 (.145) with nine doubles, a homer and 16 RBI in 76 games between Double-A Tulsa (69 games) and Triple-A Oklahoma City (7). This off-season, his 10th consecutive playing for Culiacan in the Mexican Pacific Winter League, Solis threw out 22 of 38 attempted base stealers (58%). 
 
Sam Travis, 1B - Travis, 22, was named Red Sox Minor League Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 after hitting .307 (150-for-489) with a .381 on-base percentage and .452 slugging percentage in 131 games between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland. In addition to leading Red Sox minor leaguers in batting average, hits, RBI (78), total bases (221), and walks (59), Travis posted a .995 fielding percentage (5 E/1,017 TC) in 109 games at first base. Selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2014 June Draft, the right-handed batter has hit .310 (236-for-761) with a .371 on-base percentage and 16 home runs in 198 career minor league games. 
 
Anthony Varvaro, RHP - Varvaro, 31, went 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA (5 ER/11.0 IP) in 2015, his first season with Boston, but was limited to nine outings due to a right flexor strain. On May 26, he underwent season-ending surgery to remove elbow calcification. Over parts of six major league seasons with the Seattle Mariners (2010), Atlanta Braves (2011-14), and Red Sox (2015), Varvaro is 7-9 with a 3.23 ERA (66 ER/183.2 IP) in 166 appearances, all in relief.
