Future Stars
In addition to current and former Mariners players, fans will have a chance to meet some of the Mariners top prospects including Tyler O'Neill, Drew Jackson, Braden Bishop and Boog Powell.
Tyler O'Neill was named the Mariners 2015 Minor League Co-Player of the Year (with Jesus Montero). O'Neill hit .260 with 68 runs, 21 doubles, two triples, 32 home runs and 87 RBI in 106 games with Bakersfield. He was one of seven minor league players to hit at least 30 home runs and finished tied for second with fellow Mariners farmhand Jabari Blash. O'Neill was also a member of Team Canada, which won the gold medal in the Pan Am Games on July 19 with a 7-6 victory in 10 innings over Team USA.
Shortstop Drew Jackson was named Northwest League Player of the Year after posting an outstanding first season with the Everett Aquasox. Jackson was selected in the fifth round of the June 2015 draft out of Stanford. At Everett, Jackson batted .358 with 64 runs scored, 12 doubles, 26 RBI and 47 stolen bases in 59 games. He led the league in average, stolen bases, on-base percentage and runs scored. He was rated by Baseball America as the #5 Prospect in the Northwest League after last season.
Braden Bishop was selected by the Mariners in the third round of last June's draft. Braden, who played outfield for the University of Washington Huskies, was regarded as one of the top baseball prospects in the Pac-12 Conference. At Everett last season, he hit .320 with eight doubles, two home runs and 22 RBIs.
The 22-year old Boog Powell (no relation to the Orioles star) is a left-handed hitting center fielder. He batted .295 with a .385 on-base percentage, 16 doubles, nine triples and 18 stolen bases over 117 games across Triple-A Durham and Double-A Montgomery in 2015. He was ranked No. 13 among the Tampa Bay Rays Top 30 Prospects. When Powell was acquired last November in a six-player trade with the Rays, Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto said, "Powell brings speed, defense and on-base percentage to the table and could be ready to help us as soon as 2016."
