Rockies Agree to One-Year Contract with Third Baseman Nolan Arenado

The Colorado Rockies announced Friday that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with third baseman Nolan Arenado.
Arenado, 24, played in a career-high 157 games for the Rockies in 2015 and batted .287 (177-for-616) with 43 doubles, four triples, 42 home runs, 130 RBI, two stolen bases, 34 walks and 110 strikeouts. The 42 home runs were tied for most in the NL, tied for third-most in MLB and were the fifth-most in a single season in franchise history. The 130 RBI were the most in the Majors, and were the most for a Rockies player in a single season since Matt Holliday's 137 RBI in 2007. Arenado's 89 extra-base hits were a Major League record for third basemen.
Arenado was selected to his first NL All-Star roster in 2015, won his first career Silver Slugger Award and his third consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove Award. He became the second player in Major League history to win a Rawlings Gold Glove Award in three consecutive seasons to begin a career. He led Major League third basemen in total chances (507), assists (385), double plays (42) and range factor per game (3.12). He led NL third basemen in games (157), putouts (105) and zone rating (.811).
Originally drafted by the Rockies in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, the Newport Beach, CA native has a career .281 batting average (431-for-1,534) with 106 doubles, 10 triples, 70 home runs, 243 RBI, six stolen bases, 82 walks and 240 strikeouts.
