DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced Thursday that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Jake McGee and right-handed pitcher German Marquez from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for outfielder Corey Dickerson and third baseman Kevin Padlo.
McGee appeared in 39 games for the Rays in 2015 and went 1-2 with six saves and a 2.41 ERA (37.1 IP, 10 ER), three home runs, eight walks and 48 strikeouts. He was on the 15-day disabled list until May 15 while recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow.
Originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the fifth round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft, the San Jose, Calif., native is 21-11 with 26 saves and a 2.77 ERA (259.2 IP, 80 ER) with 72 walks and 319 strikeouts in 297 career appearances over parts of six seasons with the Rays.
Marquez, 20, spent the entire 2015 season with Advanced-A Charlotte, and went 7-3 with a 3.56 ERA (139.0 IP, 55 ER), six home runs, 29 walks and 104 strikeouts in 23 starts and three relief appearances.
The San Felix, Ven., native was signed by Tampa Bay as an amateur free agent July 2, 2011. Marquez has a career Minor League record of 14-27 with a 3.88 ERA (324.2 IP, 140 ER) with 17 home runs, 98 walks and 266 strikeouts across 75 games with 59 starts at Rookie, Single-A, and Advanced-A levels since 2012.
Dickerson, 26, had two stints on the 15-day disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, and one stint for a non-displaced rib fracture in 2015. In 265 career games with Colorado since 2013, he batted .299 (255-for-854) with 136 runs, 58 doubles, 13 triples, 39 home runs, 124 RBI, 63 walks and 198 strikeouts. The McComb, Miss., native was originally drafted by the Rockies in the eighth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.
Padlo, 19, played 145 Minor League games in the Rockies organization and batted .271 (135-for-498) with 87 runs, 42 doubles, six triples, 19 home runs, 97 RBI, 90 walks and 126 strikeouts. The Murrieta, Calif., native was drafted by the Rockies in the fifth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.
Friedrich, 28, is 5-16 with a 5.81 ERA (167.1 IP, 108 ER), 22 home runs, 65 walks and 146 strikeouts over 100 career games with 19 starts for the Rockies since 2012. He made a team-high 68 relief appearances in 2015. The Evanston, Ill., native was originally drafted by the Rockies in the first round (25th pick) in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
