Oakland A's catcher Stephen Vogt underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow, the club announced today.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Jon Dickinson at Presidio Surgical Center in San Francisco this morning. Dr. Dickinson performed a debridement of the elbow joint and removed a bone chip. Vogt's recovery time is projected at 4 to 6 weeks and he is fully expected to be ready by Opening Day.
Vogt was named to his first American League All-Star team last year and batted .261 with 18 home runs and 71 RBI in 136 games. He led the A's with 56 walks and a .341 on-base percentage and his .277 batting average while catching led AL catchers. Vogt also ranked fourth among AL catchers in home runs (17) and RBI (61) and the home runs were fifth most in Oakland history by a catcher. He committed just three errors behind the plate and his .996 fielding percentage was third best in Oakland history by a catcher.
