Earlier today, the Yankees claimed INF Ronald Torreyes off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. To make room on the 40-man roster, OF Lane Adams was designated for assignment.
 
On January 12, Torreyes was acquired by the Yankees with LHP Tyler Olson from Los Angeles-NL in exchange for INF Rob Segedin and a player to be named later or cash considerations, before being designated for assignment on January 15 when the Yankees claimed OF Lane Adams off waivers from Kansas City. He was claimed off waivers by Los Angeles-AL on January 25 and designated for assignment by the Angels on January 27.
 
Torreyes, 23, made his Major League debut with the Dodgers in 2015, going 2-for-6 (.333) with 1R, 1 double, 1RBI and 1BB in eight games. The right-handed batter also played in a total of 110 minor league games at the Double-A and Triple-A levels for three organizations last season, combining to hit .261 (109-for-418) with 60 R, 18 doubles, 3 triples, 4 HR and 36 RBI with affiliates for Los Angeles-NL, Toronto and Houston. He was acquired by the Dodgers from Toronto in exchange for cash considerations on June 12, 2015. Torreyes was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on January 7.
 
Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Cincinnati in 2010, the Venezuela native has batted .298 (686-for-2,301) with 363 R, 118 doubles, 36 triples, 22 HR, 253 RBI and 72 SB in 612 career minor league games over six seasons. He has spent time in the Dodgers (2015), Blue Jays (2015), Astros (2013-15), Cubs (2012-13) and Reds (2010-11) organizations. In his career, Torreyes has primarily played second base and shortstop but has also seen time at third base, left field and center field.
