The Cleveland Indians today signed free agent INF JUAN URIBE to a one-year Major League contract for the 2016 season. He will wear #4.
Uribe, 36, owns a career Major League batting average of .256 (1519-5923) with 314 doubles, 43 triples, 192 home runs and 791 RBI across 1753 games and 15 seasons since debuting with the Colorado Rockies in 2001. He currently ranks 11th among active Major League players in games played (1753) and has ranked in the top 10 in defensive WAR in his respective league three times in his career. His .974 fielding pct. at third base is tops among Major League third basemen since 2011 (min: 400 games played at 3B). He has appeared in 45 postseason games throughout his career, collecting 5 home runs and 25 RBI in those contests and was an integral member of the 2005 World Series champion Chicago White Sox and 2010 champion SF Giants.
He split the 2015 season between the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and finished the season on the World Series roster of the New York Mets, collecting an RBI pinch-hit in Game 3 of the Fall Classic. Combined on the season he batted .253 (91-360) with 17 doubles, 14 homers and 43 RBI in 119 games (40 runs, .320/.417/.737), hitting .272 (25-92) off left-handed pitching with 4 2B, 7 HR and 15 RBI (.892 OPS). He recorded his 1,500th career hit on August 12 vs. Colorado and enjoyed a 13-game hitting streak, April 15-May 4, the 2nd-longest hitting streak of his career.
