The Miami Marlins begin a seven-game homestand on Friday, April 15, taking on the Atlanta Braves in a three-game set. Following the series, Miami will kick off a four-game series against the Washington Nationals on Monday, April 18.
The homestand begins on Friday as the Marlins, along with Major League Baseball, will celebrate Jackie Robinson Night by paying tribute to the baseball legend and civil rights hero, as well as local South Floridians who embody Jackie Robinson's nine values to live by. Fans who purchase the Special Event Package will receive a commemorative Jackie Robinson-themed Marlins hat. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket will support the Marlins Foundation in support of the Jackie Robinson Foundation. In addition, the Marlins Foundation will award two gifts, totaling $9,200, to the Jackie Robinson Foundation during a pregame ceremony.
There will also be a collection from the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Ft. Lauderdale in Section 12 that will include three Jackie Robinson jerseys: one from playing days in the Negro Leagues with the Kansas City Monarchs, one from his minor league stint with the Montreal Royals, and the third from his years with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The jerseys will be displayed on mannequins with teams' corresponding cap. The display will also include two period bats, two period gloves, figurines, books, and multiple framed photos of Negro League legends.
On Saturday, the first 5,000 fans will receive a Charles Johnson 1997 All-Star Bobblehead, courtesy of Pepsi. The bobblehead is the first giveaway of the new Marlins All-Star Bobblehead Series, which was created to honor former Marlins All-Stars as well as the 2017 MLB All-Star Game coming to Marlins Park. Also on Saturday, the Marlins will celebrate University of Miami Family Night. The Marlins Foundation will award two students enrolled in the University of Miami School of Communication's Broadcast Journalism Program a gift of $2,500 each to continue their education. The Marlins Foundation will also be presenting a gift of $7,500 to a student of the Dr. Harry Mallios award for outstanding Master's Degree Student in Student Administration.
The weekend wraps up on Sunday with South Florida Ford Autism Awareness Day, which includes a resource fair, sensory friendly seating with comfortable and spacious cushioned seats, quiet rooms, and all the family friendly Sunday Funday activities along the Promenade Level. The first 5,000 kids, ages 12 and under, will receive a Marlins Kids Baseball Cap, courtesy of FOX Sports Florida.
