Buster and Kristen Posey today announced their plans to make pediatric cancer a primary focus of their philanthropic efforts during the 2016 season and beyond.
"Kristen and I have been blessed with two healthy kids and the opportunity to contribute to the community in a meaningful way. We were shocked to learn that only about four percent of cancer funds raised throughout the country are dedicated to pediatric cancer research, and we felt compelled to lend our voices to this important cause. Our hope is that by working with the doctors, patients and their families we can raise significant awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research and treatment," said Buster Posey.
The Poseys will focus their efforts in three distinct areas: awareness, fundraising and patient/family support. Outlined below is a brief overview of their activities throughout the 2016 season and beyond.
Fundraising: New Era today unveiled the Buster Posey Pediatric Cancer Awareness 9FORTY cap which features the gold ribbon for Pediatric Cancer Awareness. Proceeds from the sale of this cap will go to support pediatric research and treatment.
Additionally, the Poseys - in partnership with the Giants and ESPN broadcaster and longtime pediatric cancer advocate Dick Vitale - will host a fundraiser at AT&T Park to support pediatric cancer research and treatment programs in the Bay Area. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 14 at AT&T Park, with proceeds benefitting The V Foundation and pediatric cancer programs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Awareness: The Poseys and the Giants will host a Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day at AT&T Park during the month of September as part of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. The event will raise awareness about and funds for pediatric cancer research. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 17.
Patient/Family Support: The Poseys and the Giants have established a program at the ballpark to support pediatric patients and their families receiving treatment at local Bay Area hospitals. Once per month, families will be invited to attend a Giants game and a pre-game field visit to meet with the Poseys.
"The Giants are honored to support Buster and Kristen in their philanthropic work. We love the passion they have for helping others, as so many of our players and their families do. I have no doubt that they will create a lasting impact on this important cause," said Larry Baer, Giants President and CEO.
