The Texas Rangers this afternoon announced that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Phil Klein (#31) from Triple-A Round Rock and placed right-handed pitcher Keone Kela on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with a right elbow impingement.

Klein will be in his second stint with the Rangers, as he was also in the bullpen from Opening Day-April 12. Klein did not appear for the Express after being optioned on April 13, although he was scheduled to pitch on Friday. His only regular season outings in 2016 came with the Rangers on April 10 at Los Angeles-AL and April 12 at Seattle, retiring all 9 batters faced over 3.0 scoreless innings in those appearances with 3 strikeouts. Klein made the Rangers' Opening Day roster for a second consecutive year and is in his third major league campaign.

Kela felt an issue with his elbow during his last outing on Tuesday against Houston. He appeared in 7 of the Rangers' first 14 games, allowing 5 runs over 6.1 innings. His 12 relief strikeouts are tied for 6th-most in the American League. The first date Kela would be eligible to return to the active roster is May 5.
