Texas Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara has been named the American League Rookie of the Month for April, it was announced today on MLB Network. 
Mazara batted .333 (21-63) with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and 7 RBI over his first 17 games in the major leagues last month after his promotion from Triple-A Round Rock on April 10. Through the end of April, Mazara ranked among overall American League leaders in average (5th) and on-base percentage (10th, .392). Among league rookies last month, he posted the highest on-base figure and most walks (tied-7), finishing second in average, hits, and runs (10). Mazara's .852 OPS in April is the highest ever by a qualifying Texas rookie in the season's first month.
Mazara is the fifth Texas rookie to win the league's monthly award in the last five seasons, joining Yu Darvish (April 2012), Justin Grimm (April 2013), Martin Perez (August 2013), and Delino DeShields (May 2015).
