Shortstop Trevor Story of the Colorado Rockies has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for April.

In 22 games last month, Story clubbed a record-breaking 10 home runs, which was tied with teammate Nolan Arenado for the Major League lead. The 10 April homers were the most by a rookie in National League history, surpassing Albert Pujols' record of eight in 2001 while a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. Story led Major League rookies with 20 RBI, 19 runs scored and three triples last month. His .696 slugging percentage and 24 hits ranked third among rookies, while his .261 batting average (24-for-92) was tied for sixth. The 23-year-old slugger became the first player in Major League history to hit seven home runs in his team's first six games (April 4th-10th), while also becoming the first Major League rookie to homer seven times in any six-game span (Elias Sports Bureau).

The Texas native, who was selected by the Rockies with the 45th overall selection in the 2011 MLB Draft, became the first player since 1900 whose first four Major League hits were home runs. His six consecutive games with at least one RBI to begin his career (April 4th-10th) tied Brooklyn's George Shuba (July 2-6, 1948) for the second-longest such streak. Story, who belted two home runs on Opening Day, is the first player in history to post a multi-homer performance in his Major League debut. This is the first Rookie of the Month honor for a Rockies rookie since Ian Stewart won for July 2008.
Other rookies receiving votes included infielder Aledmys Diaz (.423, 18 R, 30 H, 4 HR, 13 RBI, .732 SLG, .453 OBP) and outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker (.317, 11 R, 20 H, 5 HR, 13 RBI, .683 SLG) of the St. Louis Cardinals; and pitcher Kenta Maeda (3-1, 1.41 ERA, 28 SO, 32.0 IP) of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The National League Rookie of the Month for April, Trevor Story, will receive a specially designed trophy, suitably engraved, to commemorate his performance.
