The Oakland A's selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Zach Neal and recalled left-handed pitcher Eric Surkamp from Triple-A Nashville, placed infielder Jed Lowrie on the 15-day disabled list with a right shin contusion (retroactive to May 10), and optioned left-handed pitcher Daniel Coulombe to Nashville, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, infielder Eric Sogard was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
 
Neal-who was originally drafted by the then-Florida Marlins in the 17th round of the 2010 draft-was released by Miami on March 26, 2013, and signed by the A's as a free agent two days later. A product of the University of Oklahoma, Neal led all qualifying A's farmhands with a 3.09 ERA in 2014, while also topping A's minor leaguers in innings pitched that season with 166.
 
This season, the 27-year-old has appeared in six games (all starts) with Nashville, posting a 4-1 record with a 2.70 ERA in 36.2 innings. He has allowed one or fewer earned runs in four of six starts, and last pitched on May 7 at home against Memphis, tossing a season-high eight innings and allowing just three hits and a run. Neal's first appearance with Oakland will be his Major League debut.
 
Surkamp began the season in Nashville but did not make a start with the Sounds before having his contract selected on April 8. He made four starts with the A's and was optioned to Nashville on April 25, where he has since made two starts. He last pitched on May 4, when he took the loss against Iowa, tossing five innings of three-run ball.
 
Lowrie fouled a ball off his foot in the seventh inning of Monday's game in Boston against right-hander Carson Smith and was removed from the game in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Coulombe was selected yesterday and tossed two innings, allowing three runs on three hits at Boston in relief of Sean Manaea. He began the season in Nashville and posted a 0.64 ERA over 11 appearances, all in relief.
