The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has traded right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher Matt Ball.
Ball, 21, is in his fourth professional season after being selected in the 11th round of the 2013 June draft by the White Sox. He has gone 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA (8 ER/16.0 IP) in 10 relief appearances for Kannapolis in the South Atlantic League this season, posting 24 strikeouts against 5 walks. The San Diego area native was drafted out of Bonita Vista (Calif.) High School and had committed to Long Beach State University before signing with Chicago. Ball has been assigned to the Rangers' Hickory affiliate in the South Atlantic League.
Ranaudo was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday after allowing 7 runs in 3.2 innings over 2 appearances for Texas this season. He also has a 1-1 record and 2.03 ERA (3 ER/13.1 IP) in 3 games/starts for the Express in 2016. Ranaudo was originally acquired by Texas from Boston in a January 27, 2015 trade, and made 4 appearances with 2 starts for the Rangers in 2015.
With this trade, the Rangers now have 39 players on the club's major league roster.
