Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to Monday's series-opening game against the Angels:
 
· OF Shin-Soo Choo placed on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with a strained left lateral hamstring
· OF Drew Stubbs placed on 15-day disabled list with sprained left little toe
· 3B/OF Joey Gallo (#13) recalled from Triple-A Round Rock
· OF Jared Hoying (#36) contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock
· OF Patrick Kivlehan designated for assignment
 
Gallo, 22, will be seeking his first action with the Rangers this season after batting .265/.415/.639/1.054 (22-83) with 8 home runs and 20 RBI in 24 games with Round Rock. He was on the Express disabled list from May 1-18 with a left groin strain. Gallo made his major league debut with the Rangers last season, batting .204 with 6 home runs and 14 RBI in 36 games. His last big league game came in the 2015 season finale on October 4 against the Angels, when Texas clinched the A.L. West title.
 
Hoying, who turned 27 on Wednesday, is in tonight's starting lineup for his major league debut. He has spent his entire seven-year professional career in the Texas organization since being selected by the Rangers in the 10th round of the 2010 June draft. The left-handed batter and right-handed thrower has spent the year with Triple-A Round Rock, producing a .319/.409/.550/.959 slash line (51-160) with 7 home runs and 32 RBI in 41 games. He ranks among Pacific Coast League leaders in total bases (3rd, 88), RBI (4th), and hits (5th). Over his last 19 games beginning May 3, Hoying has a .390 (30-77) batting average with 3 homers and 15 RBI.
 
Choo left the game on Friday at Houston in the middle of the 3rd inning after injuring his hamstring while running the bases. He started that game in right field and had walked in each of his 2 plate appearances before the hamstring injury. It was his first game back with Texas after having been reinstated from the 15-day disabled list on Friday after missing six weeks with a right calf strain. Choo has a .188 batting average with one RBI in 6 games for the Rangers in 2016. The first date he could return to the active roster is June 5.
 
Stubbs suffered the toe injury while running the bases during the 9th inning of the game Sunday at Houston. He has batted .267 with one home run and 2 RBI in 10 games/4 starts with Texas since signed with the Rangers as a free agent on May 7. The first date Stubbs would be eligible to be reinstated is June 7.
 
Kivlehan has spent the year with Triple-A Round Rock, batting .184 with one home run and 16 RBI in 36 games. He was acquired in a trade with Seattle on December 2. The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release, or outright Kivlehan to the minor leagues.
 
With these transactions, the Rangers' major league roster remains at the 40-man limit.
